After design, prepress is the first production step. It is here we determine how the job will print and what is the ideal digital workflow to a successful completion. Our pre-press technicians take your file from preflight, proofing, right through to plates. Using leading edge software the process ensures accurate colour reproduction through all stages of the digital workflow. So customer approved proofs are always matched on press, run after run.
Prepress has seen great advances since Cober first laid ink to paper. As print craft evolved from letterpress into offset, then digital solutions so have the proficiency of our prepress department. Our electronic transition started with a CREO/SCITEX - DOLEV 450 (small format film image setter), next a CREO/SCITEX - DOLEV 800V2 (40" film image setter) with Brisque workflow into todays KODAK LOTEM 800 (40"/29" direct to plate) driven by KODAK PRINERGY workflow system.
Stages of Prepress Workflow
Premium printing starts with a proper electronic file. Once submitted it is Processed using PRINERGY which takes the job from preflight right through to plate and file archiving without intervention. Following GRACoL specifications – image resolutions, font inclusion and bleed allowances are reviewed. Files are then Refined converting RGB images to CMYK, flattening layers, colour trapping and ripped to meet specific press profiles. Our operator then imposes the page layout and submits a proof. Proofs are inspected for accuracy. Upon approval the imposition goes to plates and is further scrutinized before leaving the department.
